Artist Arathi Tharini was influenced by Southeast Asian art & culture, people and nature. While staying in Indonesia she visited various cultural places like Bali and Yogyakarta. People of Bali and their lifestyle, dance, their art & culture have a strong influence on my creations. Javanese people, Batik and other handicrafts of Yogyakarta find a place in her artworks. Indonesia offered her a rich visual source of expression. She is also inspired by the works(music, short stories and poetry) of Rabindranath Tagore. She adores Japanese arts & crafts, dance and drama and poetry (haikus.. relating to the four seasons).Women have always been a recurrent theme in her artworks. The Artist likes combining figurative with abstract and folk art traditions.
So the paintings are woven from the many ideas which inspired and influenced her while staying in Southeast Asian countries.
